Storm in Sacramento Valley Wreaks Havoc on Yards

Storm in Sacramento Valley Wreaks Havoc on Yards

For those of you who have ventured out of your home after the last storm you probably noticed a big change in your yard. The branches of your beautiful shade tree that was once adorned with golden leaves is now barren. But wait…where the heck did the sidewalk and patio go??? All you can see is a carpet of wet leaves!

It is important in between storms or heavy rain to take a walk around your yard to see if it suffered any damage. Tree limbs, leaves and other debris can damage your home, roof, fencing and yard drainage especially during a storm with high winds and rain. A quick survey of your yard could save you from some costly damage to your home and yard if you can catch it in time.

Here is a quick check list of areas to inspect:

  1. Are your gutters clogged?
  2. Check roof for any large debris and limbs that need to be trimmed back from the roof.
  3. Make sure your yard drainage system is not blocked by leaves.
  4. Clean up leaves as much as you can to prevent future clogging of your yard drains.
  5. Do a survey of your fence. Are the posts secured? Are all the slats still in place?

A few minutes of your time now can save you from some disaster later.

It’s gutter cleaning time!

November 5, 2012 by admin

It’s finally Fall, and we all know what that means! It’s gutter cleaning time! Probably one of the most hated of all home maintenance duties, but one of the most important. Roof gutters help protect your home from run-off water. When the gutters are clogged with debris the rain water will build up in the gutters and overflow into areas of the home the gutters were suppose to protect. Also, depending on the size of the gutter, the weight of the run-off water trapped in the gutter can damage your roof and your gutter system. You should typically clean your gutters twice a year, Spring and Summer. If you’re not up to the task or you have a two-story home, check into hiring a professional to do the job.

If you believe your home or building has construction defects, please call one of our attorneys to get answers to your questions and to determine whether or not you have a valid claim against the builder.

HVAC Maintenance: IT’S SUMMER, Change your filter!

July 3, 2012 by admin

Do you change your HVAC system filters regularly? We inspect many homes where the A/C filters are so dirty. This is one of the easiest things to do, and probably the most missed item of maintenance that homeowners fail to do. A clean filter helps to keep the interior air allergen free, dust free, and it will help extend the life of your HVAC system. An HVAC system can be burned as a result of failing to replace the filter regularly. The recommendation is that they are changed every 30 – 60 days and that makes the systems more efficient. The easiest way to determine when a replacement is needed is to just look at it. Most filters are white when they are new. When they start to get gray, time to throw away!
